TRAVEL - Hangout Hostel Review, Ho Chi Minh's Best Party Hostel

[Image from Hangout Hostel @ Hostel World.]

After six weeks of travelling we've finally made it to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon), our last stop in the wonderful Vietnam before heading to Cambodia. Ho Chi Minh is the largest, and the capitol city of Vietnam - and if you're looking for some fun Ho Chi Minh has got you covered. It's one of the travelers capitols of the world and has over 100 hostels ready for the picking.

I know sometimes it can be hard to find the right hostel for you so I thought I would help you out and tell you about Hangout Hostel, Ho Chi Minh. The Hangout Hostel in HCM is by far the best party hostel in the city, as voted for by it's guests for the previous two years by Hostel World and Booking.com. The address is 361A Phạm Ngũ Lão, Phường Phạm Ngũ Lão, Quận 1, Hồ Chí Minh. It's located just a minute walk from the famous 'Backpacker Street' it's in the perfect location for those looking for a great time!

We arrived around 2pm after departing from Mui Ne, before we even stepped through the door we were greeted by staff and other guests from the common room which made us feel right at home. The reception and bar are all open plan so everybody is in one space, which makes it perfect for getting to know everyone.

Checking into Hangout is simple, all I had to do was give the name from my booking and we were given our locker keys and directions to our room. Along with information about what the hostel provides and what is included within our stay. With prices starting at £4 per person per night for three different room options, 8/12/16 bed mixed dorms are available. Each dorm comes with personal under the bed lockers to store your possessions and padlocks to keep it secure, Air conditioning and a fan, free WIFI and a toilet/shower included too. If the bathroom is taken, not to worry there are also two floors with extra showers on so you'll be able to clean up.
In addition to your room benefits, you'll also receive a free buffet breakfast, two free drinks during happy hour, water refills in the reception and a free pub crawl including free shots EVERY night.

The staff were so friendly and loved to get everybody involved in some bonding activities. They made everyone feel welcome and knew a lot of fun games to play. My personal favorite being the Giant Dare Jenga. Travelers from all over the world would sit at our long table, introduce themselves, while sharing tales of travels and new games every night. It really is the place to be if you'd love to meet new people. We met groups from Germany, Netherlands, South Africa,USA and a few Brits to!
Every night Hangout offers a different party theme to bring everyone together, these include beer pong, BBQ and Neon Night.

In addition to all of that, they also offer a completely FREE walking tour, starting at 9am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday which takes you on a guided tour to get the best experience out of your trip. Make sure to register or it the day before as it get busy pretty quick.

If you're trying to keep your costs down when it comes to partying it's not a problem, as previously said - they offer 2 free beers a night, but also have happy hours of 241 on Laure and mixers - while a bit later in the evening it does become buy 2 get 1 free - but for 30,000 VND (£1) a bottle it won't dent your wallet. Every night at midnight the bar closes and off we pop to some local bars , normally The Hair Of The Dog where we get free entry and free shots on arrival.

If you're looking for a more cultural experience rather than a party experience that's not a problem either. The staff at reception will have a number of different activities for you - I took advantage of The World of Heineken Experience (if you book it through the hostel it's half price), you can find more information about this on my next post, but 4 free beers you'd be silly not to go. The follow day I also headed on the organised Cu Chi Tunnel trip booked through the hostel also. No fuss, the hostel organised everything for us and we were picked up and dropped off at our hostel right on time. They can also book your buses for onward travel to do the same so make sure to give that a go to save you some hassle.

If you're feeling a little bit peckish, you can also order reasonably priced meals at the hostel, the chicken burger is amazing and for 80,000 VND (less than £3) you can get the combo meal of burger, chips and a cola! They have a variety of local and western food so something for everyone at a cheaper price than you'll find in the backpacker street behind.

Overall, Hangout Hostel is a great place to stay in Ho Chi Minh, with the best staff and friendliest customers you'll never have a dull moment.
