TRAVEL - Panorama Mekong Hostel and Restaurant review - Cambodia

Hey guys + girls!

After a grueling 8 hours stuck on our bus from Ho Chi Minh, we finally made it to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Once we reached the Cambodian capitol we were relieved to know the place we'd be resting our heads for the night was just a 10 minute walk along the Mekong Delta.

I have been fortunate enough to team up with Panorama Mekong Hostel and Restaurant to bring you this post about a unique place to stay in Phnom Penh. This hostel is at the heart of the riverfront and within walking distance of the night market. Located on the main strip, there are restaurants, shops and bars within seconds of stepping out the front door. The hostel is located on top of a bar and restaurant so you will have to climb a few flights of stairs but it's well worth it for the Panoramic view of the river.

This hostel is the perfect combination of everything I look for in a hostel, good location, clean, safe and full of friendly staff. There are a variety of dorm rooms for you to choose from and with prices starting at £5 a night it's one not to miss! The rooms are by far my favourite aspect of the hostel, the rooms include very spacious capsule beds, which are clean, comfortable and in cased within thick concrete walls between beds so you're guaranteed a peaceful nights sleep without being disturbed by those around you. The beds include storage, a light and plugs that work with all connections.

The showers are shared between all the dorm rooms but separated between male and female. The first thing we did when we arrived was have a shower after our long day and they did not disappoint. The showers are the BEST we'd had so far on our trip. They're regularly cleaned - and very well at that, so no hair clogging up the drains. A wide waterfall shower head with good water pressure and just the right temperature.

The staff at reception speak good English and love chatting over a beer at the bar. Everyday from 5pm-8pm they have Happy Hour at the bar, including 75 cent beers and $1.75 cocktails just to name a few. We enjoyed a few Angkor's with the staff and some other guests also staying at the hostel. We asked the others what they thought about the hostel and the main reply was 'best staff in Cambodia!'

The hostel has a main restaurant on the floors below - which has regular events on, this weekend was the Halloween long weekend. The restaurant was fully booked and have spooky decoration and also brought in a band which the crowd absolutely loved by the sound of it!
Although the restaurant is downstairs, you can also order food to the bar if you're feeling peckish and don't fancy leaving the social aspect behind. In the morning I grabbed the breakfast set for $3 including bacon, beans, hash browns, toast and grilled tomato - simple but just right.  It was the perfect meal to prep me for my busy day of taking our Tuk Tuk tour around to the killing fields and S21 museum. The staff were great when it came to sorting things out for is, they booked our Tuk Tuk for the full day over the phone for a reasonable price to save us being ripped off by the ones on the street and our driver was perfect.

Overall I would give Panorama Mekong Hostel and Restaurant a 10/10. A perfect 10 for location, atmosphere, price, staff and cleanliness. I would highly recommend them and happily stay there again - specially for a good night sleep!
