I have a post coming soon in regards to what there is to do and see in Chiang Mai, but I want to tell you all about our wonderful stay at ONCE MORE Hostel!
For travelers who are always on the go, ONCE MORE Hostel is located just outside Chiang Mai's South Gate entrance. It's a simple ten minute walk through traditional streets that are bursting with colourful shops/cafes/restaurants to Chiang Mai Old City. You'll also walk past a few breathtaking temples and a number of historical sights!
There are plenty of options to choose from when booking your stay at ONCE MORE Hostel, prices start at £12 for a night stay(which is more than the average backpacker hostel, but 100% worth the money) in the bunk bed dorms, but do include an exceptional breakfast! You really do get what you pay for here. The building itself is located just off the main road and includes 24 hour CCTV for your security and it's keycard access only to the rooms, so don't forget your card!
We stayed in the 16 bed shared dorm and we're thoroughly impressed with the condition of the rooms, you can tell the hostel is new as the room still smells like fresh wood used for the capsule beds which smells fantastic! The room has strong air conditioning that reaches from one end of the room to the other, and also offers a nice view out of the window of the old town walls. The capsules have fresh, clean bedding and offer plenty of room to move around, even for us larger Europeans. Each bed comes with two lights (main and reading), plug sockets and it's own locker.
There's a private bathroom for women on our 2nd floor, and the mens bathroom was the floor above. These bathrooms were the cleanest I have seen in all of SEA. Every time (and I really do mean everytime) I went into the bathroom there was a member of staff moping the floors and replenishing the free toiletries. These are also good, each room comes with shampoo, shower gel, cotton buds, cotton pads and face wipes.
Downstairs also offers a cafe with fresh coffees, food and also craft beer for public and guests. The breakfast is different every day which made it alot easier for us rather than spending 10 minutes to choose off a never ending list. For the first morning, we had fried rice and vegetables and a choose of beverage (Coffee, latte, mocca, hot chocolate) - and the second morning we enjoyed pumpkin soup, with croutons and a croissant with help yourself coffee. The food was freshly made and using locally sourced ingredients so we knew we were getting our money's worth!
In addition to the downstairs, the hostel also includes a rooftop terrace where you can sit and enjoy a specially crafted mango americano or matcha with lemon and honey! The terrace has a quiet area with table and chairs under a shelter which is perfect for doing some work or booking your next place using their fast wifi connection. Or just chill out on their air chairs and stools with a beer from the local mini mart and take in the fresh air!
We absolutely loved our stay at ONCE MORE Hostel and would highly recommend it to anybody who is after a quiet, clean and comfortable stay in Chiang Mai.
