TRAVEL - MAP TRAVELODGE (TRAVEL BUNKER) REVIEW, CAMERON HIGHLANDS, MALAYSIA.

Address: Map Travelodge(TRAVEL BUNKER), Tanah Rata, 39000 Tanah Rata, Pahang, Malaysia.

We're slowly making our way down to Malaysia's capitol Kuala Lumpur, but decided to stop along our route from Penang at the famous Cameron Highlands. Named after the explorer Sir William Cameron, and known for being the largest hill-stationed area in Malaysia and famous for it's tea plantations we just couldn't miss this place out. Specially after our visit to Jim Thompson's house in Bangkok (for those that don't know, he's the man who saved the Thai silk business, and went missing in the Cameron Highlands)

We found a perfect, unique hostel in the center of town called Map Travelodge. By far one of the best hostels you could wish for in the Cameron Highlands. We were welcomed in with open arms and big smiley faces which mafe us feel right at home straight away.  The location is great, we are right by a few bars, 7 eleven, food court and only a 10 minute walk away from the famous Route 10 hike through the jungle.

The building is separated into three floors, the bottom floor holds two of the largest capsule bed dorms with the shared shower and bathroom. Along side the dorms is the small cafe with serves home made cakes and barista style coffees and teas (Michael highly rates the Mocha). The next floor includes another reception desk, where you can check in, book tours and even get your laundry done. A fully working kitchen with everything you'll need to prepare your own food, and also has a water machine which is free to use for your water bottles/noodles! A common area separates the two rooms. The top floor is the main chill out area for the hostel where most guests socialise, it's also the designated spot for the activities the staff put on every night for the guests. During our two night stay we had a pub quiz and a games night! The area was full plants to make the place feel fresh and airy. There's plenty of bean bags and sofas to chill out on, and they even have a theatre room  that also includes Netflix.

Our dorm was located on the third floor also. We stayed in the single bed dorm with a window during our stay. The beds were bunk beds, very comfortable with your own personal locker, reading light, fan and plugs. The room seemed a bit tight towards the window, but once you've closed your privacy curtain you kind of forget you're even in a dorm room it's so cosy and private! Our room had it's own wet room which was spacious, clean and included hot water at all time which was a bonus!

The staff were great - always had a smile on their face and every time we would walk past they would offer their assistance. I loved how much effort they put into making the hostel as sociable and friendly as possible. It made us feel welcome and I really appreciated it. You can book local tours and buses to your next destination from the reception desks on floor one or two. We booked our bus to Kuala Lumpur from the cafe which was super convenient - and at a reasonable price too.

To book your stay at Map Travelodge, you can book via their BOOKING page for the best price, in addition - if you book using our LINK you'll get an extra 10% off your stay!
